1.
TiE Cleantech SIG Event: “How Smart is the Smart Grid?” – next Tuesday, 8th of December 2009 – 6-9 pm in Santa Clara
The cost of building the Smart Grid is estimated to be $165 billion over the next 2 decades and roughly $1.3 billion of venture capital investment has gone into Smart Grid technologies in recent years. The future of Smart Grid information technology is today and has potential to be the largest infrastructure revolution of this generation.
Join us in an evening that will feature C-level executives from emerging leaders like Silver Spring, Smart Synch, eMeter, and Tendril; and a corporate giant like Cisco.
This panel discussion is about the near- and long-term roadmap for the Smart Grid – with an emphasis on drivers in network infrastructure and applications. Smart Grid deployments serve to create a “networked” energy grid and are powered by a communication layer consisting of transformative innovations such as AMI/FAN, LAN, WAN, building area network & new/competing paradigms. By forming the infrastructure to support utility- and end-user consumption, the communication infrastructure of the Smart Grid is fertile ground for advanced applications development in the near future. Utility-scale deployments across the globe are where IT innovation has to meet important industry drivers of optimizing consumption and distribution, enhancing reliability, securitization & capacity asset utilization to hence bring structural changes and offer market opportunities.
During this panel discussion, we’ll hear stories from Smart Grid leaders on how their technology & business plans have shaped the industry: What challenges lie ahead, how they see the market space evolve into entrepreneurial opportunities, predictions about future role of the energy ecosystem & that of the existential Smart Grid.
